Kathmandu: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has announced its support for the government in rebuilding public property damaged during the recent Gen-G movement. The association emphasized that its efforts are entirely in the public interest, dismissing rumors circulating in some media outlets.
Nepal Reconstruction Campaign Launched
NRNA President Mahesh Kumar Shrestha stated that the association has already launched the “Nepal Reconstruction Campaign”, which will initially focus on strengthening security mechanisms.
As part of the campaign, the “Traffic Police CCTV Control Room Reconstruction” project will be formally initiated following the NRNA working committee meeting scheduled for Saturday. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 7.4 million.
“Strengthening road safety and surveillance systems is directly related to the peace and security of the country. It is our responsibility towards the motherland to contribute to this,” Shrestha said.
The NRNA will support the reactivation of the CCTV control room, surveillance systems, and other necessary equipment at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
Clarification on Misleading Reports
NRNA spokesperson Gangadhar Gautam strongly objected to reports suggesting that funds were being raised in the association’s name for private house construction. He termed the news “completely baseless and misleading.”
Shrestha also reiterated that the association’s efforts are solely for public welfare and urged all sides to avoid spreading misinformation during a time of crisis.
Track Record of Support in National Crises
The NRNA highlighted its history of cooperation with the government during past disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and epidemics, stating that this initiative continues its tradition of supporting Nepal in times of need.
